The Geek Chic Of Marissa Mayer

Image In PR they say that any press is good press. Following the logics of this statement, it must be the year of a lifetime for the Yahoo's Marissa Mayer. Bringing Yahoo back into the limelight (tick the 'Good' box), banning the employees from working from home ('Bad' box ticked by some people, but 'Good' box ticked for Yahoo), getting into the job while 6 months pregnant, still working while 8 months pregnant, getting back to work straight after the kid's birth (while setting up a nursery by the office and bringing a nanny with the kid to work), replacing BlackBerries with iPhones at Yahoo - you name it!

It was only natural that Marissa Mayer quickly faced strong criticism coming from different directions - and most recently - for building her own 'Marissa Mayer' brand rather than Yahoo. Her infamous Vogue photo-shoot and interview only added fuel to the fire.  In the world where women fight for equality - the fashionable Yahoo boss is accused of exploiting her female appeal which is inappropriate for a CEO of a global company.

One can say that Marissa Mayer's explanation of the Vogue photo sounds self-defensive and is hard to believe. But if you think about it - when you bring a company like Yahoo back into the limelight, it doesn't hurt in the meantime to bag a fab Vogue magazine photo for your files and the world to see... ;)
