One way to Soothe your body and mind

On my journey to living a happier healthier life I discovered a long time ago that massage can be the main go-to solution, whether you are stressed out, have muscle pain, headaches, can't sleep or have an injury. And now with the on-demand economy there is no need to travel far to get a good massage cause a masseuse will come to you at one hour notice. Having first tried then novice the massage-on-demand service in London, I was keen to order one in San Francisco when I discovered Soothe.

What is Soothe

Soothe is a an app that offers access to over 7,000 independent certified massage therapists that will come to your home, office or event with one hour notice. The therapist comes with a massage table, fresh linens, lotions, oils, and music to ensure a relaxing massage so the only thing you need to do is decide on place, time, massage duration and the type of massage you want.

With Soothe app, ordering massage is easy as 1-2-3. You make your selection, make a payment (you will only be charged AFTER the session) and sit back, relax and wait for your masseuse to arrive.

My Soothe experience

A big fan of deep tissue massage to release knots and relax muscles after exercise, I got 60 minutes massage with Louis. Louis arrived 10 minutes early to prepare the massage area and ask me about any preferences I might have. The massage itself was exactly what I needed - with Louis immediately identifying the knots that were restraining my movements and working them out.

If you are first to getting a massage, remember that you are in control: let your masseuse know if you have any particular areas where you feel tense, what level of pressure you prefer and whether you prefer to have some relaxing background music for your massage or prefer to lay there in silence. During the massage itself don't hesitate to alert your masseuse if the pressure is too much or too little and any other adjustments you would like to make. You have exactly the same objective with your masseuse - your relaxation / muscle tension release - so there is no reason to hold back.

Your masseuse

As I already mentioned, Soothe massage app works with over 7,000 independent certified massage therapists that pass background checks (CMT) so there will always be someone who will be at your door with only one hour notice. In order to become a CMT, a therapist must also complete a minimum of 500 hours of practical training, but some states require as much as 1,000 hours.

While you can choose the type of massage, its duration and gender of the therapist, please note that you do not have a list of massage therapists to choose from as you are matched with your masseuse only after you place your order.

If you liked your massage session you can however re-book a session with the same therapist by going to your Appointments within the app and clicking 'rebook'. If the therapist is available at the date and time you've requested you will get a session with the same therapist.

What's the damage?

Considering how much you gain from getting a massage, I try to consider the massage cost as an investment in my personal wellbeing. :) With Soothe the sessions cost $99, $139 and $169 for 60, 90 and 120 minutes accordingly, and the good new news is that, unlike in an average massage salon, you don't have to leave a tip on top of the massage cost as Soothe takes care of the therapists and pay them the tips.

Soothe launched in 2013 and is available in 45 major cities across the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia and plans to reach 50 before the end of 2016.

$30 off your first Soothe session
